About Norwood:

Norwood is a Jewish charity that supports and empowers neurodiverse children, their families and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their best lives. For more than 225 years Norwood has provided a lifeline to the children, adults and families we support, and is an important part of the Jewish community we serve. The reason we have been so successful in doing so is due to the passion and dedication of those who work here, which is critical to everything we do.

About The Elms:

We support seven people who are in their sixties and seventies. They all have mild to moderate learning disabilities, and some have additional needs such as autism, epilepsy, dementia and cerebral palsy. Some also have mobility difficulties. Most of the residents communicate verbally, and some use photos, objects of reference and facial expressions. They are friendly and sociable and enjoy arts and crafts, music, knitting, watching TV programmes and visits to coffee shops. Some residents interact with each other, and some are more solitary.

The support we provide at The Elms is 24 hours a day. The day time shifts begin at 07:00, with a handover to the afternoon staff at 14:00. Waking night support is in place to ensure that the safety and needs of the people we support are met. Staff work a variety of shifts, but most are long days starring at 07:00 and finishing at 21:00. Staff work to a 3-week shift pattern.
