Founded in 1795, Norwood is the oldest Jewish charity in the UK, and has been privileged to receive Royal Patronage since 1815. We support and empower neurodiverse children and their families and people with neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their best lives.
Norwood works with local authorities, to deliver wide-ranging services including residential and supported living accommodation and short-breaks facilities, as well as a range of support groups aimed at the whole family, not just the individual.
These are two neighbouring, ground floor homes. Both are blessed with large lounges and a second smaller communal area with a Conservatory in Tikvah and a second lounge in Woodpeckers. Bedrooms are functional and homely and decorated to any residing individuals own personal choices and preference.
We support seven people who are aged from their thirties to their sixties. They have moderate to severe neurodevelopmental disabilities, autism, and some additional needs such as epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Some of the people we support communicate verbally at various levels. Other methods of communication used are body language, PECS, gesture, and objects of reference.
All of the people we support enjoy having fun with their support teams. They enjoy external pursuits including walking, cycling, and local activities such as ice skating and swimming. In house activities include arts & crafts, music, aromatherapy, and the ladies particularly enjoy pampering sessions. The People we Support are, with the right staff team, happy to try most things.
